Over the years the types of improvements that increase a property’s value have changed – many years ago it used to be upgrades to windows and central heating but there are few properties left in SW London where those improvements haven’t already been made.

A new study by Anglian Home Improvements was conducted together with estate agents to establish what 2019’s biggest value-adding home improvements were, as follows:-

1. Making the living space open plan

2. Loft conversion

3. Extension

4. New kitchen

5. Conservatory

Beware, however, as this list presents a UK-wide snap shot. While Aspire agrees with some of the above, SW London is susceptible to local and London trends, and we recently reported on the move away from open plan living. We’d also add gardens to the list as they are a real selling point in our area.

Property owners who can spend some time and TLC on their outside space – no matter how small – will find favour. Garden rooms, smart landscaping and exterior lighting, low-maintenance planting and al fresco entertaining areas tick the ‘must have’ boxes, especially as we come in to the summer months.
